The 501st Legion’s Empire City Garrison attended the Special Olympics Polar Plunge at Tobay Beach, Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY on Saturday, March 21st 2015 from 9:00AM – 11:30am. This event helps sponsor Special Olympic events throughout the year, and they were very pleased to have us there.
The weather was a very cold and breezy this year, hovering between 20 and 30 degrees. When we arrived it was still snowing a bit, but stopped by the time we went out. We all managed, and by 11am the sun had come out and it actually started warming up a bit, of course just before we went in to change. It started off slow, but by 10:30am it really filled up and they had a very nice turn out. We took photos with attendees, both young and old. We also handed out Citations to kids and adults, and had fun roaming around a bit. Thanks to everyone for braving the cold. We will return for the next Polar Plunge event at Cedar Beach in November 2015. Special thanks to members of our support team for helping setup, guide us around, and taking some great photos, some of which you can see below.
